A YAMITT AG8 pumps the water through a Hidro-Clean filter, then through a 55 watt Proclear UV unit before going back into the pond via an RTF venturi.
I've got the venturi angled along the pond wall and slightly down so the flow sweeps the bottom of the pond as well. This seems to be working as there is never anything on the bottom, it all ends up in the vortex chamber.
A Medo LA45 piston air pump aerates the two biological chambers, with an additional three airstones in the pond in Summer.
Some of the things I've still to do: ?
Fit a proper sump and pump to the filter waste, the pond is 150' to the nearest sewer. I'm just pumping it behind the trees at the moment.
Lay some bricks around the pond.
Build the pergola.
Put in some kind of heating. Again, as the pond is 150' from the house I've yet to decide how to do this as I've either got to lay a gas pipe, put in an oil tank, or run a 40 amp armoured electrical cable. I really do not want to use electric heating as it's so expensive and can only be sensibly used at night on economy 7.
Was it all worth it? Of course it was.
Would I do it again? Err? Steve
NOTE. I have lost touch with Steve & Jan, but if they have any news and photos of their pond I would be pleased to add it to these pages.

This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
