Marks pond - week 10.

Pond completed.

Here are some pics of the finished pond and pump box. It has taken all year but looks great.
The title shows ten weeks, but in fact there were several week-ends where no work could be carried out due to work, holidays, or bad weather.
[The completed pond] Next year we will finish the patio around the pond but in the meantime the fish are all in and seem to be happy enough.
[Close up of pump chamber] The pump box is big enough for the pump and UV plus storage of food etc. I inherited an old swimming pool pump and vacuum brush which I have converted into a very effective pond vacuum.
[The fish] The fish are now all in the new pond.
One thing I wondered is how it will effect their metabolism. In the other pond they sat on the bottom all winter not using much energy. In the new pond they are swimming all the time because of the water movement. Does this effect them at all?

Now I will strip down the old pond, get rid of all the old plants and blasted duck weed which gets everywhere, I will then move the goldfish back in and bring on small Koi. I am thinking of making it deeper....!

NOTE.
If you have any photos of your pond being built or completed why not send me some photos so that it can be seen by other koi-keepers? Why not send a message to the webmaster now?
The photos will be returned promptly if you cannot send digital images.

Go to previous pond. Return to Pond Index. Go to next pond.
