So what are the benefits of becoming a member ? ……
A FREE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER. Even if you are never able to attend a meeting or meet any of your fellow section members, your quarterly Newsletter will keep you in touch, give you information about koi-keeping, and forthcoming club events. It will also provide details of other local Koi-keepers in your area who you can contact for help, advice, or assistance in an emergency.
WINTER MEETINGS. The club usually meets indoors once a month during the winter months of October to March. They are held on the first Sunday of the month at
the Tynant Inn, Tynant Road , Morganstown,Nr Cardiff, CF15 8LB. Tel : 029 2084 3009. Details of events are published in advance in the Newsletter. We often have a guest speaker, slide shows, Q & A sessions and there are always Koi-keepers both experienced and novice available to talk to. Free refreshments are also available, and a Section Christmas party is also organised at the same time as the Annual General Meeting which is held at the beginning of December.
SUMMER EVENTS AND MEETINGS. A variety of events and meetings are organised for the summer months. Coach trips, for example, are arranged to dealers, other Sections or Koi Clubs' ponds, and to Koi Shows. The present cost of these coach trips is around £11 per person, with children of 16 years and younger, half price.
There is usually a programme of pond visits to Section members' ponds, a summer barbeque, photographic Koi show and auctions/ sales of member‘s Koi and equipment. These are arranged at least once a month, either on a weekday evening or at weekends.
GOOD VALUE KOI RELATED SUPPLIES. The Section offers to it's members a variety of popular dry goods, and top quality Koi foods at discount prices. The price of this food is much cheaper than you would find normally, as it is purchased by Section members “clubbing together” and buying in bulk. There are also extra special prices to members for larger quantities. Members also sell items of equipment that are no longer required or surplus to requirements.
FREE KOI HEALTH ADVICE. The Medical Officer has a variety of medicines and treatments available cheaply, but more importantly than this he can offer experienced help and advice particularly if that unforeseen problem arises.
FREE POND CONSTRUCTION ADVICE. The Section offers free pond construction advice via it's experienced membership. It also provides members with the opportunity to visit members ponds (often when still being constructed) which can be very helpful for getting ideas when deciding what type and style of pond you want.
LIBRARY. There are a number of books and videos dealing with Koi related matters such as pond construction, Koi health and disease diagnosis for loan to all Section members.
FRIENDSHIP AMONGST KOI-KEEPERS. Last, but by no means least this is a very valuable aspect of your membership. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy being a member of our Section, and make many new friends who share the same hobby.
