BIO-UV

The BIO-UV is made in France.
The old type quartz tubes could not be used for high flow rates so a new style germicidal "hard tube" was made for these high intensity hard quartz lamps combined with a large 153mm stainless steel reflective chamber

This UV is able to handle a pumping rate of 8,000 gallons/hr, and is ideal for some of the filter systems used in the US.
An article on the UV1 appeared in the "Koi Carp" magazine in May 2003, and this gives a long list of bacteria, mold spores, viruses, etc that it is said these units can deal with.
Water clarity is important for these UV's to destroy the micro organisms. These units will not totally sterilize the pond as it can only deal with the water passing through the unit.

These units can also be laid horizontal.

1. When I was in the Midlands during Summer 2003 on a visit to a koi-keepers pond I did see a BIO-UV in use and you can see a photograph of that above.
The owner said that he had a lot of problems with bacteria in his pond and had been unable to cure it with any chemicals. He then fitted the BIO-UV and he said that his pond was now clear and his fish were in good health.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
