Static Kaldnes K1

Many koi-keepers' are converting their vortex settling chamber to static Kalnes K1 as an effective way of cleaning the water before it enters the filter chambers.

Below we have two ways this has been done:

1. Andy's pond

2. Mick & Mandy's pond

Some koi-keepers who have 36 inch vortex chambers have used the stainless steel drum from an old washing machine and converted this.

Another method with a 24 inch diameter vortex chamber is to use the whole volume of the chamber.
We hope to have one of these systems here soon.

This photo shows one element from Springbank Koi, and it is designed to fit into their 24 inch diameter vortex chamber.
It can be used for static K1 or fluidised K1.

If you have a K1 static system on your pond why not send details to eric@bogus.net

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
