We
live in beautiful Cape Town at
the southern tip of Africa.
We started our first pond 4 years ago and have only recently completed our fourth.
We have another 30,000L pond in our back garden with smaller fish growing on
- the good ones will end up in our new front pond.
The
pond was originally only the left pond up to ground level,
we knocked out the side wall and extended the hole and added
the filter next to it. We then raised the walls above ground
and built the bridge through the middle.
It
appears to be two ponds, but the centre section is actually
a bridge. Check here for more photos.
The
filters can be seen here, and for more details check here.
Our fish are mainly
bred in S.A.
We do have a few Japanese imports, like the unusual goromo showa at the top of
the photo (a trophy winner at our local show).
We have 27 fish in this pond, between 30 and 45cm in length, including sanke,
showa, kumonryu, ogon, hariwake and utsuri.

This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
