Water a bit green still but has improved after treating the pond water with the necessary treatments to improve it.

The old filters by the side of the pond

June 2006 the filters were removed and setup on the side of the pond giving me unhindered access to the filter area. I needed to hit this water quality problem hard so a plan was devised to buy a new filter system. I had met up with a few people who had Koi and there filters were running ok.
I gleaned a lot of good advice and a lot of reading up as well and armed with all this knowledge I went looking for the filter I needed.

The chamber with the filters removed. The filters have been removed and is ready for the new filters.
I found to my frustration that I could not get a commercially available filter system to the size I wanted.
I wanted a gravity fed bio filter with all the toys in it and I would have had to buy a small one to fit in the available space I had. This would have served no purpose at all as the filters I had already were not coping and the hot weather was on its way.

So I decided to build my own by now I had enough basic know how on what I needed to make this water better so off I went and collected the desired components and started building in my workshop.
So it was borne the filter to sort out my problems 50 gallons, Brushes, Sponge, Wadding, and Kaldnes K1 {copy}. And Flocor most of it quite good prices from EBay all set up in a filter I made up with some roofing polycarbonate. Armed with my lathe and drills ect I set about building it.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
