Pond descriptions

Andy & Tracey's pond

This is a description of Andy and Tracey's pond and they live in Bedford. Their first pond was an ornamental 3' deep pond with a 10' long stream running into it but after a couple of koi deaths Andy came across the wondrous information on the internet and particularly this site and the pond construction pages and that's when he realised that his "puddle" was not for keeping koi. So then it was either just stick to goldfish and shubunkins or do it properly.
Andy printed off all the construction pages from the Koi Cymru website, and put them in a file and read them over and over. He also posted a few questions on the forum to gain a further understanding of how parts of it were supposed to work, and has continued to help other koi keepers on the Forum.
Andy changed his original design quite a few times to include things like skimmers and various water returns until he was happy to start building. Check out the flow diagram he made up before building to enable him to ensure the pipes ran in the right direction, and he could budget and purchase the correct valves etc. (Acobat 5.0 or above required).
The following friends helped him to build the pond, Hog, Frankie, the Chuckle Brothers (Warren and Mark) and Phil the Brickie.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
