Wayne & Heidi's pond - page 4

The pump setup.

Here you can see me and my father-in-law busy installing the swimming pool pump.

I am a very lucky person because my father-in-law is a real handy man. He did all the electrical cabling/wiring for the pond.

I needed a external double socket and a light switch for my swimming pool light. The swimming pool light also required a transformer to bring the power down.

Here you can see my pump setup.
I use a Speck Porpoise 90/10 Swimming Pool pump that has a flow rate of 18000 liters per hour. The pump is bolted onto a 10cm thick concrete base. It is slightly raised to prevent water from gathering around the pump.

The sand filter is a speck Aquaswim sand filter. I wish that I could have bought the speck Badu Koi Filter but it was just out of my reach.

I have 2 incoming lines with ball valves.
1. Bottom Drain
2. Skimmer

I also have 2 outgoing lines.
1. Bio Filter to Water Fall
2. Swimming Pool Jet and Venturi

I also use a 30 Watt Ultra Zap UV Sterilizer on my 2nd outgoing line.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
