Alan of Bristol has converted two ponds into one Koi pond.

It was originally a Koi pond and separate Goldfish pond. The new pond is a combination of the two existing structures with extra depth of 4'6" on the RH side of the pond.

Alan has twelve fish, one Shubunkin and eleven Koi which vary in length from 4" up to 24".

The second pond I made during the spring, this has a liner, with a Powerjet 4500 filter and clarifier and a Powerjet 2000 pump. Recently I have added a Aquamax 5000 pump to increase the flow of water. The size of pond is about 14feet long by 8feet wide and 3feet deep. As a feature there is a Japanese Tap as well. There is decking over 35% of the pond for protection for the fish.

Paddy lives near Bangor in Noth Wales, and this is his description of his large natural pond.
Paddy's pond. Large image

The pond was built 12 years ago when we found a natural spring fed well at the farm, and after a bit of investigating we discovered that it was the only water source in the village (pre-war). Approx 200 yards away from the well at the front of the house was an area of garden that was constantly boggy all through the year.
So after a lot of consideration it was agreed that the spring must have branched off, or was cust close to the surface in that area. So we decided to dig a pond rather than construct a bog garden.

Why not include your pond here with a brief description?

Why not put a smile on the webmaster's face.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
