Pond construction

Ron's pond 18. Filters

Filters for tap water

The pond was filled using a pair of purifiers. The water is pre-filtered before passing through a 24" granular carbon filter. Following this, the water passes through a block carbon filter and a metals removal cartridge. A flow meter has also been added to ensure that the system gallonage could be recorded.

The pond ended up at 6965gallons and took four days to fill due to the slow flow rate required through the purifiers.

Once the pond was filled the heating and top-up systems were installed in the filter area. Prior to placing the fish in the new pond the temperature was brought up to match the, now cooling, temporary tank. When they were equal, the fish were place in the new pond.

Once the fish were in the new pond the nexus system was switched on. This now meant that the second filter system, that had been filtering the temporary tank, could be installed on the second drain line.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
