Early April now, six months after starting and the fish were moved into a temporary 400 gallon vat in the shed. The vat was filtered using the same filter and heating system that had been used on the main pond to retain water quality and temperature.
The water was then drained and the demolition of the old pond started. I was surprised just how many creases were in the liner and can see now why people choose to tape down the seams.
The polystyrene sheets were removed from the walls leaving behind a concrete wall and base that would form part of the filter area.
Once cleared the pipework running connecting the pond to the filter area could be extended. Here a hole has been punched through what was the old pond wall and the cluster of pipes positioned.
This website started with a
booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS
- South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This
is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems
that might occur by following these ideas. It is important
that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules
that may apply.
