Ron's pond 10. Progressing the pipework

Return pipes formidwater returns Return pipes

These pictures show the return pipes for the mid water TPRS and also the feed line for the sand-filter which, although somewhat unfashionable at present, polishes the water superbly when run for around one day per week and is something that I intend to fit on this pond. Again pressure pipe has been used for all pipework.

NOTE. With the use of the Nexus filter many koi-keepers are now using a sand filter, and these are usually running continously and back flushed every one or two days.

The pipework was connected to run to a point just outside where the front wall would be built before being diverted up the garden to the filter house. Radius bends have again been used to reduce the friction on the long pipe runs.

The skimmer is powered by an Aquamax 10,000 drawing around 2000gph. The return from this splits between a waterfall and mid water return. The advantage of this is that the full 2000gph of returning water can be pumped down the waterfall (in Summer to provide more oxygen) or below the surface of the water (in Winter) or any combination in between.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
