Pond construction

Ron's pond 9. Landscape area

At this point the building is well under way, a number of brick ties have been added at one metre separation to tie the inner and outer skins. Where the wall curves the bricks have been split in half to provide a more pleasing appearance.
These photographs show the left and right raised landscape area and the wall is now finished and the first five tons of border soil have been added. When the pond has had its final row of bricks cemented in (they can be seen placed loosely in these photographs) the final soil will be added.
This photograph shows where the front wall separates away from the landscaped area and the concrete backfill gives way to the support given by the soil in the borders.
The angled timber that can be seen is a type of roof structure that can have a tarpaulin stretched over it to provide shelter from the element during construction; they will be removed shortly leaving a standard pergola covering the pond.

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply.
