A Guide to Modern Koi Pond Construction Aeration
| Aeration is very important especially during the summer. Japanese matting and Kaldnes K1 both need vast quantities of air, but should not be used with Flocor or Alfagrog. |
| The 3 pumps above are the most popular air pumps used
in this area. |

The accesories that are used for these pumps are those normally associated with aquarium tanks. The airline is 6 or 8mm, and some people prefer to use silicon airline. It is more expensive but has a longer life which is a good idea as we are using it outside. These pumps are supplied with a manifold which has at least six connections for the airline. If you are running several airlines to your filter bays then it is much better to set up a pipe manifold along your filter, or in your filter house. Some of the larger systems use pipework of up to 1.5 inches, but half inch pipe is more usually used. The pipe can then be drilled and tapped so that the metal adaptor in the right photo above can be screwed into it. These pumps are also suitable for use with diffuser drains. |

This website started with a booklet which I made up originally for the help of those members of the BKKS - South Wales Section who were intending to start building a koi pond, and as the website has expanded more information and articles from other people have been included. This is for general guidance only, and we do not take any responsibility for problems that might occur by following these ideas. It is important that you check out everything in your area, and check on local laws and rules that may apply. |
