Pond heating

Heat exchanger.

Heat exchangerStainless steel heat exchangers are available from most large koi dealers.
They come in various sizes and this often causes confusion as to which one should be used.
The main criteria is the pond pumping rate as it needs to be capable of accepting the full capacity of the pump being used.

The heat exchangers are supplied by Waterline Heat Eexchangers and they are available in several different sizes. They are quoted in btu's, but this should not be confused with the rating of your boiler. The gallons/hour quoted below is the maximum pumping capacity for the pond pump used to pump the water through the heat exchanger.

100,000btu - 1,440gph.
130,000btu - 1,860gph.
170,000btu - 2,460gph.
230,000btu - 3,300gph.

The threaded connections for the pond water connections are 1.5 inch BSP male thread up to the 170,000btu size, and above that it is 2.0 inch BSP. The threaded connections for the hot water from the boiler are one inch BSP.
